Challenge
Managing a vast, multi-site operation across 25,000 hectares, the Wairakei Water User Group (WUG) needed a unified system capable of integrating hundreds of assets across different sites. The platform had to ensure full compliance with complex, site-specific water consents, provide real-time operational insights, and deliver custom dashboards and alerts to over 60 staff and contractors — all while remaining scalable and future-ready.
The organisation faced several critical questions:
- How can we integrate and manage hundreds of assets across multiple sites into one cohesive system?
- How can we ensure compliance with complex, site-specific water consents without disrupting daily operations?
- What tools can we use to provide real-time insights and alerts for our operational teams, ensuring they can make data-driven decisions promptly?
- How can we create a scalable solution that remains flexible for future growth and integrates with other technologies?
Solution
Halo partnered with WUG to deliver a full-stack monitoring and control solution built for performance, compliance, and scale. The system featured automated consent enforcement through hardstop controls, remote pump and valve management, and an intuitive dashboard with live data and alerting. Third-party integrations, such as live stream flow data, were also incorporated into the platform, empowering proactive decision-making. Tailored specifically for New Zealand’s regulatory environment, the system gave both consent holders and individual farms clear visibility, operational control, and peace of mind.
